I’ve been intensively writing and rewriting my personal statement for university admissions over the past few weeks, sending it back and forth to friends who came back with comments that I tried to get my head around—try adding this; you need more passion, &c.

While rewriting it for the fourth time, it hit me: it wasn’t that I lacked passion or drive; I was looking at university with a vastly different perspective from everyone else. I’ve been working for over a year, and the way I approach things now is pretty different from how I would’ve done things back then. Most people I’ve asked are still in school. And besides, it’s my personal statement anyway. I’ve sent it to my brother. We’ll see what he says. I’m pretty tired right now.

I was sitting on the porcelain throne reading TIME when a spider came down from the ceiling in front of me. Normally I’d ignore (or smack) it, but this time around I picked it up by the thread it was spinning and played with it for a while. I could see it freaking out and trying to get to the floor, so I put it down nicely. Strange, I know.

That’s the trailer for Sandcastle, the movie I’m in. It’s weird watching myself on screen; I have no idea how I’m going to do it eleven times in Cannes. We’re leaving in three days. I haven’t packed yet.

Some friends have asked me who did the cover of “Home” on the trailer—it was performed by Donald Pan (Nuance), and produced by Joe Ng (The Padres, Mee Pok Man). You can listen to it on the official Tumblr site. The original, of course, was written by Dick Lee and performed by Kit Chan for National Day way back when I was in Primary 6.

I introduced myself to Joe Ng the other day at BEAT! and he was pretty surprised. I was pretty surprised, too, because I’d never really talked to him before (save for running up to the front and requesting Goodil on my phone). Nice guy.

I must be the only nut who sleeps without the air-conditioning turned on in this weather.
