This is what passes for “satay” in New York, and at US$7 a pop, too. Didn’t really do it for me, but then again it was soy satay… we (Sameer and I) were eating at a vegan place down the street from NYU.

Snapped this when standing in line for pizza in Brooklyn — Grimaldi’s is the shit, let me tell you that. What is it? For those less musically inclined — no, it is not a quest in WOW; it is a Bob Dylan song with a fantastic Jimi Hendrix cover written about something else entirely. 

This was after the premiere of the Kevin Smith movie Zack and Miri Make a Porno — he (Kevin Smith) was giving a panel and talked about having to take a dump real bad, and how they managed to get around the ratings board by bringing up Jackass as an example. Funny guy.

Probably the most awesome ketchup plate ever — they served it to us this way. I can’t remember where this was, but it was just after we got in to Vegas.

In-n-Out! The last time I was in LA to eat one was six years ago. Worth the wait? Hell yeah. Double cheeseburger and a coke, thank you. Burgers in Singapore don’t even come close.

And finally (I cannot believe I did this) I accompanied my cousin to queue up for the release of Gears of War 2. It was actually pretty funny because you had the kids with their parents, Asian high school nerds and other gaming stereotypes all in the line. Man.

New York’s been pretty good to me so far. I’m pretty sure I want to study here sooner or later; I just have no idea when, given the current financial market. My current plan is to work for a while in Singapore for a year or two and save some money so I don’t have to eat ramen every day. Expenses in New York are crazy — I guess it’s too bad I got out of the army just when the exchange rate started getting worse.

One thing’s for sure though — as much as I spend most of my waking hours either making music or sitting in front of the computer and getting my brain cells killed, I really dislike doing websites. Half the freelance jobs that come my way involve websites in one way or the other, and I really hate it when that happens.

I like working with something tangible; something you can hold in your hand and carry around with you. Books hold your attention much better than the internet does; if you’re looking at any given site, chances are that you’ve got Gmail open in another window and MSN popping up every minute or so. The viewer gets distracted and doesn’t absorb as much as you want them to. Books, on the other hand… it’s there, right in front of you and you’re not reading two or three books at a time, unless you’re doing something ridiculous like, say, studying.

I don’t really know how to explain it.

I think they’re about the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn… but damn if that didn’t hurt the pocket :/ I think it’s a matter of getting used to it — if I can drop $1600 on a bass, why not $500 on a pair of shoes?

There was a Takashi Murakami dog tag at LV for US$495 — would have loved to, but there’s no way in hell I could’ve justified that to my mom. Still… nice to dream.
